Weather Delay Exploratory Trenching at Utica Park

Wednesday, January 31, 2024 UPDATE: Due to the weather system coming in, next week’s work will be delayed. We will update you once we have new work dates.

Friday, January 26, 2024: After encountering unexpected additional geotechnical needs identified by the Contractor’s Engineer, we acted promptly to engage GeoCon’s expertise. Following this, I’m pleased to report that the City Council has approved the final change order, allowing for the completion of necessary testing on the existing park property.

We have now secured confirmation that exploratory trenching is scheduled for February 5th and 6th, subject to favorable weather conditions. This critical phase will enable Boyer Construction to ascertain specific areas that require avoidance, further aiding our decision-making process. Importantly, it will also provide us with crucial data for discussing potential mitigation strategies, which we intend to bring before the City Council for further deliberation.

This stage marks a significant turning point for our project, as it addresses a major bottleneck that has been impeding progress. We recognize the importance of keeping the community informed and will be actively disseminating this information. Your assistance in sharing these updates would be greatly appreciated.

Luckily, both the expansion property and the existing park had the debris already removed to avoid any additional delays. That step, although controversial, has made it possible to expedite the physical trenching and testing.

We would like to thank the public for their continued support and patience during this phase. We recognize that this has not been an easy hurdle and are looking forward to the next steps.
