Controlled debris burning is allowed with restrictions inside the City limits. Chapter 8.44 of the City of Angels Municipal Code states that during fire season (generally from April to October) a burn permit is required for anyone that wishes to burn yard waste debris. Burn permits can be obtained at Fire Station 1, 1404 Vallecito Rd. or at City Hall, 584 S. Main St. between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; weekends at the Fire Station only. Although a burn permit is not required during non-fire season months, property owners will still be held responsible for following Chapter 8.44 of the City Municipal Code. A copy of the rules and regulations pertaining to open burning consistent with Chapter 8.44 will be published in the paper at the end of fire season.
Burning will only be allowed on permissive burn days as established by the Air quality management agency and the State. Burn day status can be obtained by calling (209)754-6600. Burn piles will be restricted to no larger than 4′ x 4′ x 4′ in size. A 10 ft. area surrounding the pile must be clear of any combustible material and the pile must be in attendance at all times. The person burning must also have in their possession tools and some form of applying water to extinguish a fire that may escape their control. Notify the City of Angels Fire Department immediately if a fire escapes your control or leaves the property of origin. Please remember to burn only CLEAN, DRY AND ALLOWABLE MATERIALS. Burn piles and smoke that becomes a nuisance to others will be extinguished. Failure to comply with these rules and regulations may result in fines, civil suits or other penalties. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the City of Angels Fire Department staff at 209-736-4081.
